(NASDAQ: MNTS) (“Momentus” or the “Company”), a U.S. commercial space company that offers satellite buses, transportation and other in-space infrastructure services, today announced it has effectuated a 1-for-14 reverse stock split (the “Reverse Stock Split”) of its Class A common stock (the “Common Stock”) that will become effective on December 12, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The Company’s Common Stock will continue to trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market (“Nasdaq”) under the symbol “MNTS” and will begin trading on a split-adjusted basis at the opening of the market on December 13, 2024. The new CUSIP number for the Common Stock following the Reverse Stock Split will be 60879E309. The Reverse Stock Split was approved by the Company’s stockholders at the special meeting of the stockholders on December 2, 2024. As a result of the Reverse Stock Split, every 14 shares of Common Stock issued and outstanding will be automatically combined into one share of Common Stock. The Reverse Stock Split will proportionately reduce the number of outstanding shares of Common Stock from approximately 31 million shares to approximately 2 million shares and the ownership percentage of each stockholder will remain unchanged other than as a result of fractional shares. The Company’s public warrants trading on Nasdaq under the existing symbol “MNTSW,” and outstanding equity-based awards and shares or share units issued under the Company’s benefit plans, including applicable exercise prices, will be proportionately adjusted. No fractional shares of Common Stock will be issued in connection with the Reverse Stock Split. Stockholders that would hold a fractional share of Common Stock as a result of the Reverse Stock Split will have such fractional shares of Common Stock rounded up to the nearest whole share of Common Stock. To effectuate the Reverse Stock Split, the Company filed the Certificate of Amendment to its Second Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation, as amended, which was accepted for filing by the Secretary of State of the State of Delaware on December 9, 2024. There will be no change to the total number of authorized shares of Common Stock as set forth in the Second Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation of the Company, as amended. Among other considerations, the Reverse Stock Split is intended to bring the Company into compliance with the minimum bid price requirement for maintaining the listing of its Common Stock on Nasdaq, and to make the bid price more attractive to a broader group of institutional and retail investors. Nasdaq requires, among other things, that a listing company’s common stock maintain a minimum bid price of at least $1.00 per share. About Momentus Inc. Momentus is a U.S. commercial space company that offers commercial satellite buses, in-space infrastructure services, including in-space transportation, hosted payloads and in-orbit services. Article content Christmas is looking sparse and uncertain for more than 60 residents — including about 25 children — displaced by the city’s shutdown of the Edmonton apartment building where a security guard was killed Dec. 6. Boards were nailed over windows Monday as the City of Edmonton declared the 36-unit building at 10603 107 Ave. unsafe for human habitation. As recently as Sunday night, there was an overdose in the building — and residents say another security guard had been attacked with bear spray just days before security guard Harshandeep Singh, 20, was shot to death in a stairwell. Evan Rain and Judith Saulteaux, both 30, have been charged with first-degree murder and possessing a prohibited weapon in relation to Singh’s death. ‘Serious safety concerns’ David Jones, manager of the City of Edmonton community standards branch, said the difficult decision to displace residents two days before Christmas was made in consultation with the Residential Inspection Safety Compliance Team (RISC), the Edmonton Police Service, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, Alberta Health Services, and Occupational Health and Safety. “The building has been the site of numerous violations, and we have been provided with substantial evidence of non-compliance with business licensing conditions that were put in place to protect people living in and visiting the building,” said Jones in a Monday afternoon statement. “After a thorough assessment by our city’s Residential Inspection Safety Compliance team ... we determined that immediate action was needed to protect building residents. “The safety and well-being of residents, neighbors and the community is our top concern. Unfortunately, safety concerns have escalated with two separate shooting incidents, one resulting in a fatality, and conditions in the building have deteriorated in the past month,” he said. “This decision was not taken lightly, but ultimately this is not a safe space for the residents, especially children and their families. The building poses an imminent risk to residents, those visiting the building and the public in the immediate area.” He said the city, in partnership with the Government of Alberta and the Canadian Red Cross, is providing immediate temporary housing and transportation for all evacuated residents. The City of Edmonton is the entity responsible to carry out the emergency order under Section 551 of the Municipal Government Act to immediately close the property, relocate the residents and board up the building. “Specific issues impacting the safety and well-being of residents include significant safety and security concerns, building management, neglect of those concerns, inadequate maintenance and an active pest infestation, to name a few,” said Jones. “The safety and security issues were tragically emphasized on December 6, when a security guard working at the building was shot and killed on site. Since then, the city has received concerning information, leading us to conclude that the safety and security of the building have not improved, and that there remains a serious risk of harm to people living in or visiting the building. “Until the safety, security and public health issues are addressed, the property poses an imminent and unacceptable safety risk.” Jones added that the city is doing everything it can to move resident families and individuals into safe, temporary housing, and is working with partners to secure long-term housing for them. “Any time a decision is made to evacuate people from their homes, the city applies great thought and consideration to the circumstances,” Jones said. The apartment building will remain closed until safety concerns are resolved and the property owner meets the business licence conditions for health, safety, and security. Businesses on the first floor in the same building are not impacted by the residential closure, Jones said. The city has had an open investigation on the property. “Significant efforts have been made to incentivize and compel building management to address concerns and incremental progress was being made. However, over the last five years and through 60 inspections, 25 citations have been issued in relation to the property and numerous serious issues remain unresolved,” said a Monday afternoon news release issued by the City of Edmonton. “The issues identified include significant safety and security concerns, neglect of maintenance, active pest infestations and other conditions that severely compromise the safety and well-being of residents,” the release said. ‘Always on guard’ Troubles beset the residents of the building before and after the fatal shooting of 20-year-old security guard Harshandeep Singh. Just days before the NorQuest College business major was slain in the stairwell, another security guard had been blasted with bear spray. “Three days before, another security guard got bear maced by somebody upstairs,” said Tammi Comeau, a building resident who called 911 after she and her son heard the Dec. 6 gunshots that led to Singh’s death. Now temporarily housed in a double-queen hotel room along Gateway Boulevard in south Edmonton, the Comeaus including their dog Fancy, await news from Homeward Trust of another rental property. Comeau said she felt huge relief leaving the building at the corner of 107 Avenue and 106 Street. “I was always on guard there,” she said. A rampant cockroach infestation wasn’t even the worst problem plaguing the residents. After the family moved into the building on their arrival from New Brunswick, it became clear their new home had issues. Comeau said she has administered Naloxone to revive one of her neighbours while crack and meth in the building were readily available and overdoses, including one Sunday night, were common. She said her family is also dealing with fixing their work truck after its windshield was smashed out but she feels for other families from the building who not only are displaced but have no Christmas tree or presents to put under it for their children. jcarmichael@postmedia.comStock market today: Nvidia drags Wall Street from its records as oil and gold rise

ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and high-tech defense startup Anduril Industries will collaborate to develop artificial intelligence-inflected technologies for military applications, the companies announced. “U.S. and allied forces face a rapidly evolving set of aerial threats from both emerging unmanned systems and legacy manned platforms that can wreak havoc, damage infrastructure and take lives,” the companies wrote in a Wednesday statement . “The Anduril and OpenAI strategic partnership will focus on improving the nation’s counter-unmanned aircraft systems (CUAS) and their ability to detect, assess and respond to potentially lethal aerial threats in real-time.” The companies framed the alliance as a way to secure American technical supremacy during a “pivotal moment” in the AI race against China. They did not disclose financial terms. The partnership brings together the world’s most valuable AI company, and Anduril, one of the most prominent firms in a new crop of defense startups. It makes drones, military software, and sensor towers that detect incoming drones. OpenAI had previously barred its technology from military use but changed its guidelines in January to allow some collaborations. OpenAi told The Wall Street Journal in a statement the technology developed with Anduril will only be used in defensive applications, and CEO Sam Altman said his company seeks to “ensure the technology upholds democratic values.” The deal also signals the tech world’s growing interest in working with the Pentagon. While the military-industrial complex was highly involved historically in the development of the internet and computer technology, and tech giants have large computing contracts with defense agencies, Silicon Valley majors and startups alike had previously shown a wariness to work directly with the military on battlefield technology. And to a degree, it remains controversial inside the tech world. In 2018, Google employees were highly critical of Project Maven , an effort to help the Pentagon identify people in drone videos, and the tech company declined to continue the partnership the following year. Earlier this year, scores of Google workers were fired after employees staged sit-ins in offices in New York and California to protest the company’s cloud contract with Israel amid the ongoing war in Gaza. AI seems to have changed the calculus. In November, OpenAI competitor Anthropic announced it would partner with Amazon and Palantir to give AI algorithms to the Defense Department. The deals also highlight the increasing nexus between conservative politics, big tech, and military technology. Palmer Lucky, co-founder of Anduril, was an early, vocal supporter of Donald Trump in the tech world, and is close with Elon Musk. Musk co-founded OpenAI, but stepped away in 2018 and founded an AI lab of his own. Musk has also publicly feuded with Altman and sued OpenAI, and has become one of Donald Trump’s most influential and public allies, overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency advisory commission aimed at directing trillions in government spending. Vice-president-elect JD Vance, meanwhile, is a protege of investor Peter Thiel, who co-founded Palantir, another of the companies involved in military AI.The NCAA appealed Monday the preliminary injunction granted by a U.S. federal judge giving Diego Pavia another year of eligibility even as the organization's Division I board of directors granted a waiver allowing athletes in a similar situation as the Vanderbilt quarterback to play in 2025-26. Read unlimited articles for free today: Already have an account? The NCAA appealed Monday the preliminary injunction granted by a U.S. federal judge giving Diego Pavia another year of eligibility even as the organization’s Division I board of directors granted a waiver allowing athletes in a similar situation as the Vanderbilt quarterback to play in 2025-26. When U.S. District Judge William L. Campbell issued the injunction Dec. 18, it was limited only to Pavia, arguing that he was likely to win on his argument that NCAA Division I eligibility rules discriminated against him under the Sherman Act over his two years at a junior college. The judge also told the NCAA it couldn’t take any action against Vanderbilt or any university Pavia plays with for his fifth season. The NCAA filed its appeal of Campbell’s injunction and order to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals based in Cincinnati. The waiver also announced Monday should limit the filing of more lawsuits by other athletes who started at a junior college and want another season to access name, image and likeness opportunities. Specifically, the board’s waiver is for those athletes “who attended and competed at a non-NCAA school for one or more years to remain eligible and compete in 2025-26 if those student-athletes would have otherwise used their final season of competition during the 2024-25 academic year, and meet all other eligibility requirements (e.g., progress toward degree, five-year period of eligibility),” according to a statement from the NCAA. The Division I Board of Directors and Division I Council authorized a review of eligibility last June designed to create a sustainable framework that can withstand scrutiny. “That review already resulted in action to modernize collegiate sports,” according to the NCAA statement. “The review includes all aspects of student-athlete eligibility, and Division I is committed to advancing the discussion during January governance meetings.” Ironically, the annual NCAA convention will be held Jan. 14-17 in Nashville, Tennessee. Campbell noted last week that current NCAA bylaws had made Pavia ineligible to play Division I football in 2025 simply because the quarterback started his career at a junior college. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. The judge wrote he was not persuaded by NCAA arguments on Division I eligibility limiting athletes who start at junior colleges to three or four years. He noted the NCAA does not start the eligibility clock for prep school athletes even when they compete athletically against junior colleges or other schools that count as “collegiate institutions.” Campbell also wrote how the NCAA’s eligibility rules have evolved from when freshmen weren’t allowed to play to adding a redshirt rule. The judge also wrote that Pavia has a “strong likelihood of success” under the Sherman Act at trial because the organization’s rules limiting junior college eligibility are “restraints on trade with substantial anticompetitive effects.” Pavia filed his lawsuit seeking an additional season Nov. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee in Nashville. He has applied to Vanderbilt’s masters’ program for legal studies starting in January, and he is scheduled to play for the Commodores (6-6) on Friday in the Birmingham Bowl against Georgia Tech. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Ethics Committee on Monday accused Matt Gaetz of “regularly” paying for sex, including once with a 17-year-old girl, and purchasing and using illicit drugs as a member of Congress, as lawmakers released the conclusions of a nearly four-year investigation that helped sink his nomination for attorney general. The 37-page report by the bipartisan panel includes explicit details of sex-filled parties and vacations that Gaetz, now 42, took part in from 2017 to 2020 while the Republican represented Florida's western Panhandle. Congressional investigators concluded that Gaetz violated multiple state laws related to sexual misconduct while in office, though not federal sex trafficking laws. They also found that Gaetz “knowingly and willfully sought to impede and obstruct” the committee's work. “The Committee determined there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress,” the report said. Before the report came out, Gaetz denied any wrongdoing and criticized the committee's process. “Giving funds to someone you are dating — that they didn’t ask for — and that isn’t ‘charged’ for sex is now prostitution?!?” he posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. “There is a reason they did this to me in a Christmas Eve-Eve report and not in a courtroom of any kind where I could present evidence and challenge witnesses.” Gaetz , who was first elected in 2017, spent the majority of his time in Washington enmeshed in scandals that ultimately derailed his selection by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Justice Department . Gaetz abruptly resigned from Congress last month. His political future is uncertain, although Gaetz has indicated interest in running for the open Senate seat in Florida. The committee painted a damning portrait of Gaetz's conduct, using dozens of pages of exhibits, including text messages, financial records, travel receipts, checks and online payments, to document a party and drug-fueled lifestyle. The committee said it compiled the evidence after issuing 29 subpoenas for documents and testimony and contacting more than two dozen witnesses. In addition to soliciting prostitution, the report said Gaetz “accepted gifts, including transportation and lodging in connection with a 2018 trip to the Bahamas, in excess of permissible amounts.” That same year, investigators said, Gaetz arranged for a staffer to obtain a passport for a woman with whom he was sexually involved, falsely telling the State Department that she was his constituent. In some of the text exchanges made public, he appeared to be inviting various women to events, getaways or parties, and arranging airplane travel and lodging. At one point he asked one woman if she had a “cute black dress” to wear. There were also discussions of shipping goods. One of the exhibits was a text exchange that appeared to be between two of the women concerned about their cash flow and payments. In another, a person asked Gaetz for help to pay an educational expense. Regarding the 17-year-old girl, the report said there was no evidence Gaetz knew she was a minor when he had sex with her. The woman told the committee she did not tell Gaetz she was under 18 at the time and that he learned she was a minor more than a month after the party. But Gaetz stayed in touch with her after that and met up with her for “commercial sex” again less than six months after she turned 18, according to the committee. Florida law says it is a felony for a person 24 or older to have sex with a minor. The law does not allow a claim of ignorance or misrepresentation of a minor's age as a defense. Joel Leppard, who represents two women who told the committee that Gaetz paid them for sex, said the findings “vindicate” the accounts of his clients and “demonstrate their credibility.” “We appreciate the Committee’s commitment to transparency in releasing this comprehensive report so the truth can be known,” Leppard said in a statement. At least one Republican joined all five Democrats on the committee earlier this month in voting to release the report despite initial opposition from GOP lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, to publishing findings about a former member of Congress. While ethics reports have previously been released after a member’s resignation, it is extremely rare. On behalf of the Republicans who voted against making the report public, the committee chairman, Rep. Michael Guest of Mississippi, wrote that while the members did not challenge the findings, “we take great exception that the majority deviated from the Committee’s well-established standards,” to drop any investigation when a person is not longer a member of the chamber. Guest added that releasing this report sets a precedent that “is a dangerous departure with potentially catastrophic consequences.” But Maryland Rep. Glenn Ivey, a Democratic member of the committee, said that for transparency, it was crucial for the public and Congress as an institution to read the findings. "I think that’s important for my colleagues here in the House to know how the committee reviews certain acts," he told The Associated Press. "Some of these were obviously conduct that crossed the line, but some of them weren’t.” Mounting a last-ditch effort to halt the publication of the report, Gaetz filed a lawsuit Monday asking a federal court to intervene. He cited what he called “untruthful and defamatory information” that would “significantly damage” his “standing and reputation in the community.” Gaetz’s complaint argued that he was no longer under the committee’s jurisdiction because he had resigned from Congress. The often secretive, bipartisan committee has investigated claims against Gaetz since 2021. But its work became more urgent last month when Trump picked him shortly after the Nov. 5 election Day to be the nation's top law enforcement officer. Gaetz resigned from Congress that same day, putting him outside the purview of the committee's jurisdiction. But Democrats had pressed to make the report public even after Gaetz was no longer in the House and had withdrawn from consideration for Trump's Cabinet. A vote on the House floor this month to force the report’s release failed; all but one Republican voted against it. The committee detailed its start-and-stop investigation over the past several years, which was halted for a time as the Justice Department conducted its own inquiry of Gaetz. Federal prosecutors never brought a case against him. Lawmakers said they asked the Justice Department for information about its investigation, but the agency refused to hand over information, saying it does not disclose information about investigations that do not result in charges. The committee then subpoenaed the department for records. After a back-and-forth between department officials and the committee, the department only handed over “publicly reported information about the testimony of a deceased individual,” according to the committee's report. The report said Gaetz was “uncooperative" throughout the committee's investigation. He provided “minimal documentation” in response to the committee’s requests, it said. “He also did not agree to a voluntary interview.” ___ Associated Press writer Alanna Durkin Richer contributed to this report.

Ahmedabad: A young woman, aged 23, from Vasna area of the city, approached the Cybercrime police with a complaint on Monday, stating that she was defrauded of Rs 5.20 lakh by an individual who claimed to be a pilot at Heathrow Airport in the UK. The fraud occurred over nine months. In her FIR, the complainant, employed as an accountant with a US-based company, stated that a man identifying himself as Steven contacted her through Instagram. After she accepted his follow request, they began communicating regularly. He claimed to be an American national working as a pilot at Heathrow Airport. Their communication shifted to WhatsApp after exchanging telephone numbers. Approximately one month into their interaction, he unexpectedly requested $250, citing his mother's asthma treatment. He claimed his bank accounts were inaccessible and required urgent financial assistance. The complainant transferred the money on March 28 to a bank account as directed by the accused. She noticed the recipient account was of an Indian national, which Steven explained was his Indian colleague's account at the airport. Subsequently, he requested additional funds, claiming his mother passed away and he needed money for urgent travel to the US. The complainant revealed that Steven accessed her banking information and secured a credit card loan of Rs 5 lakh. Upon his persistent requests for more money, she realised it was a fraud and contacted the Cybercrime helpline. Based on her complaint, Cybercrime police registered offences under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal breach of trust, cheating, and impersonation, besides charges under the Information Technology Act. NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. donors gave $3.6 billion on Tuesday, an increase from the past two years, according to estimates from the nonprofit GivingTuesday. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving, now known as GivingTuesday, has become a major day for nonprofits to fundraise and otherwise engage their supporters each year, since the 92nd St Y in New York started it as a hashtag in 2012. GivingTuesday has since become an independent nonprofit that connects a worldwide network of leaders and organizations who promote giving in their communities. “This just really shows the generosity, the willingness of American citizens to show up, particularly collectively,” said Asha Curran, CEO of the nonprofit GivingTuesday. “We are just seeing the power of collective action and particularly collective giving over and over and over again.” This year, about 18.5 million people donated to nonprofits and another 9.2 million people volunteered, according to GivingTuesday’s estimates. Both the number of donors and the number of volunteers increased by 4% from the group’s 2023 estimates. “For us, it’s not just about the number of dollars,” Curran said. “It’s about the number of people who feel like they have agency over the way their communities progress forward into the future.” The nonprofit GivingTuesday estimates the amount of money and goods donated and the number of participants using data from donor management software companies, donation platforms, payment processors and donor-advised funds. Curran said they are purposely conservative in their calculations. Nonprofits in the U.S. raised $3.1 billion in both 2022 and 2023 on GivingTuesday. That mirrored larger giving trends where the overall amount of donations dropped in 2022 and mostly held steady in 2023 after accounting for inflation. It’s never easy to predict current giving trends but Una Osili, associate dean at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, said there were economic forces pushing in both directions. Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Donating or volunteering with nonprofits aren’t the only ways people participate in their communities. Many give to crowdfunding campaigns, political causes or support people directly in their networks. But tracking charitable donations is one way that researchers use to understand people’s civic engagement. “This country is undeniably in a lot of pain and very divided right now,” Curran said. “And so to have a day that felt as hopeful and as optimistic as yesterday did, I’m sure was not only comforting to me, but to many, many millions of people.” ___ Associated Press coverage of philanthropy and nonprofits receives support through the AP’s collaboration with The Conversation US, with funding from Lilly Endowment Inc. “He also did not agree to a voluntary interview.” ___ Associated Press writer Alanna Durkin Richer contributed to this report.UK Finance Ministry Targets Waste Reduction in Public Spending Overhaul

In June 2022, Thornton Academy faced Bangor High School for the Maine Class A state baseball championship. Thornton Academy was leading 1-0 going into the fourth inning. After Bangor got runners on second and third with no outs, Thornton Academy brought in the team’s ace pitcher, Cody Bowker. He proceeded to retire the side, giving up no runs that inning or for the rest of the game. “We knew we had a chance to win States that year,” recalls Cody, who lives in Bowdoinham, “and we put in a lot of hard work to do it.” Indeed, they did. The entire team would work out at the batting facility at 7 a.m. every morning before school started at 8:30 a.m. Mission accomplished. “Cody led by example,” said Thornton Academy coach Jason Lariviere after the victory. “He was the one holding them accountable.” Cody hit .490 for the season, in addition to excelling on the mound, and was named Maine’s Gatorade Player of the Year. Despite Cody’s fine season, he got few offers from Division I schools to play baseball. He chose to play at Georgetown University, a mid-level D-1 school, even though he’d never met the coach in person before signing up. He pitched well at Georgetown, earning All-Big East Second Team Honors at the end of his second year. Ever seeking to hone his skills, Cody has played baseball in various summer leagues over the past few years, culminating in joining the Cape Cod League, the nation’s premier league for top amateur baseball players. After his successful second season at Georgetown, Cody decided to enter the open college portal, indicating his willingness to consider offers from other colleges. “The phone blew up,” recalls Cody with a smile, “I got calls from coaches from all over the country.” Cody opted to transfer to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, because of its fine academic reputation combined with its elite baseball program. Coached by the legendary Tim Corbin, Vanderbilt has developed scores of players who’ve gone on to the major leagues. Indeed, six players were drafted by major league teams this past spring. “Coach Corbin is amazing,” says Cody. “He meets with the team in a classroom before practice to help build unity. He talks about everything but baseball. One time he even showed us how to brush our teeth! He wants to create a team of good humans.” In addition to learning life lessons from Coach Corbin, Cody is fortunate to be guided by Scott Brown, Vanderbilt’s ace pitching coach. An article written at the time Cody signed with the team notes, “Bowker’s fastball is on a par with the rest of the Commodore pitching staff, touching mid-90s velocity and generating plenty of whiffs. Bowker is a high-strike thrower with an elevated command on his slider and changeup to create a full bag of pitches he can go to. He will look to make a name for himself in the SEC.” Cody looks forward to playing for the Vanderbilt Commodores this spring. The team’s 60-game schedule should give him plenty of chances to show his stuff. He will be eligible for the major league draft after this season, his junior year. I’m betting that Cody will be drafted early by a major league team. He has all the tools, both physically and mentally. He has great focus in the classroom as well as on the pitcher’s mound. Indeed, he complied a 4.0 grade point average in high school and a 3.4 GPA to date in challenging college courses. When I asked Cody how he felt being brought into that championship game against Bangor in a very tough situation, he said. “I knew I could do it. I knew I could get those guys out.” You can’t teach confidence like that, but you have to possess it to succeed at the highest levels of sport or in any other field for that matter. We’re cheering you on, Cody, and when (not if) you’re in the majors, we proud Mainers will say to ourselves, “We knew it all along.” David Treadwell, a Brunswick writer, welcomes commentary and suggestions for future Just a Little Old” columns. (AP) — The Charlotte Hornets will be without point guard LaMelo Ball for at least two weeks because of a strained left calf. Ball felt discomfort in his calf after Wednesday night’s loss to the Miami Heat and did not play against the New York Knicks on Friday. The team said he will be reevaluated on Dec. 11, which is two weeks from the date of the original injury. Ball has been hot for the Hornets, averaging 40.3 points in his last four games. He is averaging a career-best 31.1 points and 4.7 3-pointers per game for the season, which ranks second in the NBA. He also is averaging 5.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 18 starts. Ball has had a history of injury problems, mostly to his ankles, since coming to the league as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. The only Hornets player to ever receive a max contract extension, Ball has played in just 202 games with 182 starts in five seasons. The team also said guard Tre Mann’s lower back soreness has been diagnosed as a disk irritation. His absence from the lineup began on Nov. 23 against Milwaukee. He will continue his rehabilitation and be reevaluated in two weeks. The Hornets' next game is Saturday night against the Atlanta Hawks. AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA
