Liverpool power seven points clear, Man Utd crash at WolvesNoneUCL: Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu endures defeat with Monaco to BenficaOver the weekend, Blake Lively elevated herself into the pantheon of famous Hollywood women who have taken monumental, #MeToo-inspired stands against sexual predation in the entertainment industry. The 37-year-old star not only publicly detailed her own painful experience with sexual harassment on the set of her movie, “It Ends With Us,” in a legal complaint and in a viral New York Times story , she also chronicled the way she was allegedly targeted by a sophisticated social media “smear campaign” during the film’s release in August. The purpose of this campaign, allegedly orchestrated by cunning and craven Hollywood publicists, was to damage her reputation for the sake of advancing the career and the personal brand of her alleged harasser, co-star and director Justin Baldoni. In a statement to the New York Times, Lively valiantly said, “I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted.” Nearly seven years ago, Lively also voiced her support for women taking a stand against sexual predators in Hollywood during the rise of the #MeToo movement. But unlike now, Lively’s purported advocacy for women speaking up against sexual misconduct was met with skepticism and even backlash. That’s because Lively had chosen to publicly support one of the industry’s most famous alleged predators, Woody Allen. Among other things, Lively praised Allen for his “very empowering” direction after she co-starred in his 2016 film “Cafe Society.” During press interviews for the film, she also refused to address the sexual assault allegations made against him by his own daughter, Dylan Farrow. Indeed, one prominent person speaking out against Lively in late 2017 and early 2018 was Dylan Farrow, who originally accused the filmmaker of molesting her in 1992, when she was 7 years old. While Dylan Farrow praised women in the industry for “taking a stand” to effect change in Hollywood, she also said that Lively and other celebrity #MeToo advocates who had worked with her father were actually complicit “in the culture they are fighting against.” “The people who join this movement without taking any kind of personal accountability for the ways in which their own words and decisions have helped to perpetuate the culture they are fighting against, that’s hard for me to reconcile,” Dylan Farrow said in a statement to the media at the time. When Lively was initially cast in Allen’s “Cafe Society” in 2015, the former TV actor no doubt relished the chance to gain serious acting credibility by working with Allen, then still revered as one of world cinema’s best-loved auteurs. A year later, after “Cafe Society” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Lively gushed about joining an elite class of actresses who could be considered Allen “muses,” telling Hamptons magazine that it was “really cool to work with a director who’s done so much.” But it was during the 2016 Cannes Film Festival that public opinion began to turn against Allen, and Lively began to feel some heat. The change was led by Allen’s own son, journalist Ronan Farrow, whose later reporting on the alleged sex crimes of producer Harvey Weinstein helped spur the #MeToo movement. In a stunning May 2016 op-ed for The Hollywood Reporter, Farrow reminded movie fans — and A-list stars like Lively — that his father had allegedly “groomed” his sister with inappropriate touching as a young girl and sexually assaulted her when she was 7. The allegations against Allen first became public in the 1990s, amid his stormy break-up from longtime girlfriend Mia Farrow, Ronan and Dylan’s mother. As Allen vehemently denied the molestation allegations involving Dylan, his “PR engine revved into action,” Ronan Farrow explained in his op-ed. Similar to what Lively would say about Baldoni, Allen had savvy and aggressive publicists working on his behalf to spin a narrative to the public that was favorable to him and harmful to his alleged victim, according to Ronan Farrow. In Allen’s case, this narrative sought to enlist journalists and news outlets in discrediting his own daughter’s account of being molested, Ronan Farrow said. Also similar to Baldoni, Allen’s aim was to salvage his reputation and to continue his career as a filmmaker. Ronan Farrow described how this narrative held power for more than 20 years, largely because media outlets, fearful of Allen’s power in the industry, didn’t want to consider his sister’s side of the story. The journalist described his sister’s “agony in the wake of powerful voices sweeping aside her allegations” and “the press often willing to be taken along for the ride.” He said that it also hurt his sister to see A-list actors, some of whom were personal heroes, line up to star in his movies. The day after Ronan Farrow published his op-ed piece, Vulture asked Lively for a comment on being one of the actors who presumably hurt Dylan Farrow by lining up to star in her father’s movies. She demurred, saying she hadn’t read the piece. “I think that’s dangerous,” she said. “I don’t want to speak about something I haven’t read.” Lively also told the Los Angeles Times that any news coverage of Allen’s personal life didn’t register with her when she was making the movie. “I could (only) know my experience,” she said. “And my experience with Woody is he’s empowering to women.” Lively came to Allen’s defense in other ways by ripping into a Cannes official who made a joke about Dylan Farrow’s allegations before the “Cafe Society” screening, Variety reported. She said film festivals are meant to be “beautiful” events for the purpose of celebrating movies and artists, and they shouldn’t be tarnished by someone making jokes about “something (like sexual abuse) that wasn’t funny.” More than a year later, Ronan Farrow, writing for the New Yorker, joined New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor in publishing investigative stories that revealed Harvey Weinstein’s decades-long history of alleged sexual harassment and assault against scores of women. The Weinstein revelations quickly spurred many other women to come forward about sexual misconduct perpetrated by powerful men in media. As the #MeToo movement took off, Dylan Farrow gained a new platform to re-litigate her claims against her father in the court of public opinion. She wrote an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times, in which she called out Lively, Kate Winslet and Greta Gerwig for choosing to work with her father but then refusing to “answer questions about it.” Now in 2024, Lively has become a #MeToo-style hero by going public with her allegations against Baldoni. That status was helped by the fact that her claims were detailed by the New York Times report, in a report co-authored by Twohey, one of the reporters who originally broke the Weinstein story. As with Lively’s bombshell legal complaint filed in California, the Times story also focuses on the alleged efforts by Baldoni and his publicists to damage Lively’s reputation, in order to pre-empt her claims about his sexually inappropriate behavior on set. But over the years, Lively still has not addressed her support for Allen or her refusal to discuss Dylan Farrow’s allegations. Unlike Greta Gerwig and some other actors, she also has not voiced regret for choosing to work with Allen, even after Ronan Farrow presented evidence of his father’s P.R. efforts to discredit his own daughter. But given Lively’s recent, allegedly harrowing experience with Baldoni, maybe she’ll finally feel willing to speak up about whether she regrets working for Allen.
Money-Market Fund Assets Tumble Most In 5 Months After Trump Win; Loan Volumes Surge
Lululemon Q3 Earnings: Revenue Beat, EPS Beat, $1B Buyback Increase, 'Continued Momentum' Across International MarketsThe Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has expressed grave concern over what it describes as a "slanderous" and "false" article published by NewsDay titled "Mnangagwa Turns to Parallel Structures." The article alleges that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is maneuvering to extend his term beyond constitutional limits, employing unconventional methods and "parallel structures" outside ZANU-PF's established arms. In a strongly worded statement, the OPC refuted the claims as malicious fabrications aimed at discrediting the Head of State and undermining national unity. The Office emphasized that President Mnangagwa has consistently reiterated his commitment to upholding the two-term limit prescribed by Zimbabwe's Constitution. "Repeatedly, the President has been on public record stating and re-stating in person that he has no intention or ambition to serve beyond the term which the National Constitution mandates for Presidency," the statement read. The OPC accused NewsDay of creating a misleading narrative that suggests disunity within ZANU-PF and security structures, warning that such allegations could destabilize the nation. It further described the publication as an act of defamation, calculated to erode public trust in the President and foster discord. Call for Retraction The OPC has demanded that NewsDay retract the article within seven publishing days, warning of legal action if the demand is not met. This marks the second time in recent months that the publication has come under fire from the President's Office for allegedly publishing falsehoods. "While the Office respects freedoms granted to the media by the Country's Constitution, it is very clear that flagrantly publishing and circulating falsehoods is not protected by the laws of the country," the OPC warned, adding that offenders may face legal consequences. Media Responsibility The OPC acknowledged the importance of media freedom but stressed that this freedom does not absolve journalists of accountability. "Views of individuals and interest groups exercising their freedom of expression cannot be imputed on the President or treated as reversing his public pronouncements," the statement emphasized. The Office also clarified that ZANU-PF's affiliate groups, which operate within the framework of the party's constitution, cannot be mislabeled as "parallel structures." Implications The OPC's response underscores the tensions between government officials and sections of the press, with accusations of media overreach being met with government assertions of defamation. This development highlights the delicate balance between press freedom and accountability in Zimbabwe's evolving political landscape. As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on NewsDay's response to the demand for a retraction and any subsequent legal action.AP Trending SummaryBrief at 6:01 p.m. EST

Gophers QB Max Brosmer commits to play in bowl gameINDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts defense started this season struggling. It couldn't stop the run, couldn't keep teams out of the end zone, couldn't get off the field. Now the script has flipped. Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley's group is playing stouter, holding teams — even the high-scoring Detroit Lions — largely in check long enough to give Indy a chance to win, and it's the Colts offense that has struggled. “They are playing their tails off. You don’t want them on the field a bunch and as an offense you want to be able to play complementary football,” running back Jonathan Taylor said after Sunday's 24-6 loss. “I would say specifically on offense, it sucks when you can’t help your defense out when they are fighting their tails off all game.” Indy's defense held up its end of the bargain by limiting the Lions (10-1) to 14 first-half points and allowing just 24, matching Detroit's lowest output since Week 3. The problem: Even when the Colts (5-7) did get Detroit off the field, they couldn't sustain drives or score touchdowns. Again. Anthony Richardson provided the bulk of the ground game by rushing 10 times for 61 yards, mostly early. Taylor managed just 35 yards on 11 carries and a season-high 10 penalties constantly forced the Colts to dig out from deep deficits. Part of that was by design. “We knew Jonathan Taylor was going to be the guy we needed to shut down,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “We did that. The quarterback runs. It got us on a couple but overall, we did what we needed to do, and we kept them out of that game." Part of it could be because of an injury-battered offensive line that has started three rookies each of the past two weeks and finished the previous game with the same three rookies. Whatever the fix, Indy needs a good solution. There is good news for Indy is that its schedule now gets substantially more manageable. After losing four of five, all to teams in playoff position and three to division leaders, Indy faces only one team with a winning record in its final five games. The most recent time the Colts played a team with a losing mark, Richardson rallied them past the New York Jets 28-27. But Colts coach Shane Steichen knows that's not the answer. The Colts must get this offense righted now. “We’ve got to get that figured out. We’ve got to get him going on the ground,” Steichen said when asked about Taylor, who has 92 yards on his past 35 carries. “We’ll look at the offensive line. We’ll look at everything." Pass rush. Pro Bowl DT DeForest Buckner's presence certainly has been felt since he returned from a sprained ankle Oct. 27. In those past five games, the Colts have had 14 sacks, including three of Jared Goff on Sunday. Penalties. The Colts have had one of the cleanest operations in the league most of this season. Sunday was an anomaly, but one that can't merely be written off. WR Michael Pittman Jr. The five-year veteran is one of the league's toughest guys, but playing through a back injury appeared to take its toll on Pittman's productivity. Since sitting out in Week 10, Pittman has 11 receptions for 142 yards including six for 96 yards, his second-highest total of the season, Sunday. Tight ends. Each week the Colts want their tight ends to make an impact. And each week, they seem to fail. It happened again Sunday when Drew Ogletree dropped a TD pass that would have given Indy a 10-7 lead. Instead, Indy settled for a field goal and a 7-6 deficit. Through 12 games, Indy's tight ends have a total of 26 catches, 299 yards and two TDs. That's just not good enough in a league where versatile, productive tight ends increasingly signal success. Pittman and WR Josh Downs both returned to the game after leaving briefly with shoulder injuries. WR Ashton Dulin did not return after hurting his foot in the second half. But the bigger questions come on the offensive line. LT Bernhard Raimann (knee) was inactive Sunday, and rookie center Tanor Bortolini entered the concussion protocol Monday. Bortolini was one of three rookie starters the past two weeks, replacing Pro Bowler Ryan Kelly who is on injured reserve. 55.88 — Indy has scored touchdowns on 55.88% of its red zone trips this season. While it puts it near the middle of the NFL, it's cost the Colts multiple wins. Richardson needs to rebound from this latest 11 of 28 performance and show he can lead the Colts to victories week after week. He'll get plenty of chances over the season's final month, starting with next week's game at the New England Patriots. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

A gallery participating in the Scope Art Show in Miami Beach was asked by fair organizers to remove a portrait of Donald Trump, which depicts the Republican president-elect mid-speech with the word “huge” overlaid in neon letters. The Miami-based gallery L Kotler Fine Art said it had been “forced” to remove the piece by artist Shyglo, titled “HUGE” (2016), and is now auctioning the work online instead, where it is listed with an estimate of $15,000 to $30,000. “May the conversation continue,” the gallery said in an Instagram story. A representative for Scope Art Show denied that the work was targeted on the basis of its content, telling Hyperallergic that the gallery is one of at least 40 exhibitors asked to rehang or remove artworks that “weren’t part of their original accepted proposal.” Art galleries are required to submit an application months in advance with a booth presentation proposal including the artworks they plan to show. Get the latest art news, reviews and opinions from Hyperallergic. Daily Weekly Opportunities “SCOPE Art Show is a steadfast champion of freedom of expression and has never asked a gallery to remove a work based on political or personal views in its 23-year history,” the spokesperson said. “L. Kotler Fine Art was asked to remove or rehang multiple works — not only the work in question — because they were not part of their original proposal and not installed according to the specifications given to all galleries.” Lindsay Kotler, the gallery’s owner, told Hyperallergic that Scope had featured works by Shyglo in its last three editions and that she was surprised when the fair’s director approached her booth and asked her to take down the piece on opening day, Tuesday, December 3, in front of visitors. “Most of the art in my booth wasn’t part of my original curation. This was the only one that was singled out and demanded to be removed immediately,” Kotler told Hyperallergic . “The previous piece that was on view was sold. We didn’t want to display something that you can’t acquire, so we switched it out,” Kotler explained. Shyglo’s paintings are typically rendered in a photorealistic style, portraying political leaders and notable figures such as late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, artist Frida Kahlo, and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour juxtaposed with words like “icon” or “lucky” scrawled in neon cursive lettering. “When I created ‘HUGE’ it was meant to spark conversation, not conflict,” Shyglo told Hyperallergic . “So when we learned the piece was removed from the Scope Art Show, we were shocked. It wasn’t intended to offend; it was meant to engage. To have it silenced felt like a loss of the very purpose of art: inspiring thought, dialogue, and emotion,” the artist said. US Senate report finds CIA mishandled employee cases of Havana syndromeThe Mumbai police are contemplating to challenge the bail granted to Bhavesh Bhinde, 50, the director of Ego Media Pvt Ltd, in connection with the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse case. Bhinde was granted bail a month ago after he appealed that the May 13 incident in which 17 people were killed was “an act of god” and that he had no role to play in it, rather becoming a victim of “political vendetta”. Sources in the police said that a proposal to challenge the bail was sent to the law and judiciary department, which is expected to take a call in the next five days. Once approved, they will approach the Bombay high court. In his bail plea, Bhinde said he joined the advertising firm on December 21, 2023, by which time the said hoarding was already erected and advertisements were being displayed thereon. He said, as a result, no fault, liability can be ascribed to him as he merely took over the management of the company from the date mentioned. Further, he claimed that the hoarding collapsed not due to improper, faulty construction, but because of “force majeure” (act of god). Besides, it was argued that BMC had no jurisdiction over the land and the hoarding was constructed after obtaining permission from the Commissioner of Police (Railways). He had also cited Justice (retd) AV Nirgude, who opined that the land bearing survey would be classified as a land belonging to the railways, and that the BMC has no power to either regulate any advertisements or charge license fee on it.

Six people have been arrested while six others remain wanted in connection with a daring smash-and-grab heist at a jewelry store in Markham, Ont. on Wednesday afternoon, according to York Regional Police. Videos released on social media show around 10 people kicking and tearing out the windows of LukFuk Jewellery in Markville Shopping Centre at around noon. Police say they were also using hammers to smash out the glass windows which is located near McCowan Road and Highway 7. As officers were about to arrive at the mall, police say a white Honda Civic, believed to be one of the suspect vehicles, rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of McCowan Road and Highway 7. The car quickly emptied out as the suspects ran but police say officers nabbed four of them before they caught up with two others in the washroom of a nearby restaurant. Police did not say how many people were inside the vehicle that was rear-ended but they did note that the occupants were left with minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital as a precautionary measure. The Honda Civic was reported stolen in Toronto last month. Police say a number of the alleged robbers were also travelling inside a beige SUV as well. Four teens from Toronto between the ages of 15 and 17, as well as 19-year-old men from Toronto and Mississauga, were arrested and have been charged with robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. https://x.com/YRP/status/1864764866663452707 Police note that four of the people arrested and charged in this case were out on bail. “Investigators are currently seeking at least six additional male suspects, four of which were directly involved in the robbery and at least two acting as getaway drivers,” a police statement says.Serie A: Venezia 0-1 Lecce – Dorgu lifts Lecce out of relegation zone
A newly elected Democrat in the Minnesota House of Representatives resigned Friday following a recent court decision that found him ineligible to serve because he failed to meet the state’s residency requirement. As a result, a special election will be held Jan. 28 to fill Curtis Johnson’s House seat representing parts of Ramsey County. Last week, Ramsey County District Court Judge Leonardo Castro ruled in favor of Paul Wikstrom, the Republican challenger who contested Johnson’s decisive election victory. Wikstrom alleged that Johnson didn’t live in the Rice Street apartment he had rented in early 2024 to establish residency in the Roseville-area House district, and the judge agreed. In a resignation letter Friday to Gov. Tim Walz posted on social media, Johnson said he disagrees with the court’s decision, but he didn’t see a “viable pathway” to regain his seat in the legislature by appealing to the Minnesota Supreme Court. “Rather than dragging this out further I decided to resign now so a special election can be held as soon as possible,” Johnson wrote. The news means partisan power at the Capitol will shift to Republicans, at least for the time being. Prior to the court’s ruling, the Minnesota House was expected to be tied with 67 DFLers and 67 Republicans for the first time since 1979 . In a statement Friday, DFL House Speaker Melissa Hortman said a prompt special election means voters in Johnson’s east-metro suburban district will be represented for the bulk of the legislative session. “We expect the district will again vote to elect a Democrat by overwhelming margins,” Hortman said. “This session provides a historic opportunity for the Minnesota House to govern on a bipartisan basis,” Hortman added. “House Democrats are ready to get to work with our Republican colleagues. There is no time to waste on partisanship as we head into session. Neither party has enough votes to pass a bill on its own, so we will need to work together.” Republican Speaker-designate Lisa Demuth said in a statement she was pleased Johnson “accepted the court’s clear decision.” “This confirms that Republicans will have an organizational majority on Day One,” Demuth added. Democrats and Republicans have been negotiating power-sharing agreements in recent weeks and have agreed on House committee membership but those discussions had been paused because of the Johnson court case and another pending in Scott County. Walz on Friday issued a writ of special election to fill Johnson’s vacancy in House District 40B. A special primary election for the nomination of candidates will be Jan. 14, if necessary. Affidavits of candidacy and nominating petitions for potential candidates must be filed with the Secretary of State or the Ramsey County auditor by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31.Super Proposal Revolutionizes Proposal Writing with AI-Powered Platform 12-26-2024 09:44 PM CET | Business, Economy, Finances, Banking & Insurance Press release from: ABNewswire Image: https://www.abnewswire.com/uploads/fa226995e11a8c5bace383d7714c7e84.png Super Proposal, a cutting-edge business proposal software [ https://www.superproposal.com ] designed to streamline the art of proposal writing, is proud to announce its official launch.
