CHIANG MAI, Dec 25 — Rare golden tigresses with cream-coloured coats and wide eyes at a zoo in northern Thailand have become internet sensations, after luring massive crowds to shows where they have been trained to perform tricks. Unusually coloured Bengal tigers like siblings Ava and Luna, both 3 years old, are found only in animal breeding centres or zoos rather than in the wild, said Patcharee Pipatwongchai, the tiger trainer at Chiang Mai’s Night Safari. The twin sisters, born in captivity, made their debut at the zoo in June and became a sensation after they were featured on its social media platforms. They draw sellout crowds at the zoo’s 500-seat arena at shows four days a week, where they perform tricks alongside their trainer. “Seeing this tiger, I think it’s incredibly intelligent and capable of delivering surprising performances like this, I’m happy that Chiang Mai has such smart animals as a key attraction,” said visitor Wirunya Punyokit from Chiang Mai. The animals’ rare pigmentation results from recessive genes, the Thai National Parks website said, which give them thick, pale gold fur and legs and faint orange stripes. Prior to the tigresses, another Thai zoo south of capital Bangkok drew thousands of visitors with another internet animal sensation, a baby hippo called Moo Deng. — ReutersLas Vegas quarterback Gardner Minshew is out for the season due to a broken collarbone, head coach Antonio Pierce confirmed on Monday, leaving the Raiders with a short week to determine their starter. Minshew suffered the injury when he was sacked and landed on his left shoulder late in the fourth quarter of Las Vegas' 29-19 home loss to the Denver Broncos. Former starter Aidan O'Connell, who was sidelined by a thumb injury in Week 7, could return off injured reserve in time for the Raiders (2-9) to face the two-time reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs (10-1) on Friday in Kansas City. "We'll see if Aidan is good to go," Pierce said. "He's been ramping up." O'Connell entered the 21-day practice window on Monday as the Raiders determine when to activate him. "Seeing him able to grip the ball comfortable, hopefully, no pain there, and just being able to be efficient," Pierce said. "To put a player out there that's hurting or injured still, that's not to the benefit of the player or our team." O'Connell, 26, has played in four games this season, starting two (both losses). He is 52 of 82 (63.4 percent) for 455 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. As a rookie last season, O'Connell started 10 of 11 games, going 5-5, and completed 213 of 343 passes (62.1 percent) for 2,218 yards, 12 TDs and seven interceptions. The Raiders selected O'Connell in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. "Obviously at the quarterback position, you've got to be smart," Pierce said. "I think with Aidan, his future's much brighter looking ahead. ... I'll have to really rely on our doctors and medical staff." Desmond Ridder replaced Minshew and went 5 of 10 for 64 yards. Ridder, 25, has appeared in three games this season for Las Vegas and is 16 of 26 (61.5 percent) for 138 yards and one TD. Ridder played the previous two seasons for the Atlanta Falcons, who selected him in the third round of the 2022 draft. For his career, he is 338 of 529 (63.9 percent) for 3,682 yards, 15 TDs and 12 interceptions in 22 games (17 starts, 8-9 record). Minshew, 28, completed 25 of 42 passes for 230 yards with one touchdown and one interception against the Broncos. He finished his first season with the Raiders with 2,013 yards, nine TDs and 10 picks on 66.3 percent passing. He joined the Raiders in free agency after stints in Jacksonville (2019-20), Philadelphia (2021-22) and Indianapolis (2023) and won the starting job in camp. By MICHELLE L. PRICE and ROB GILLIES NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump’s recent dinner with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his visit to Paris for the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral were not just exercises in policy and diplomacy. They were also prime trolling opportunities for Trump. There were his belittling nicknames for political opponents, his impressions of other political figures and the plentiful memes he shared on social media. Now that’s he’s preparing to return to the Oval Office, Trump is back at it, and his trolling is attracting more attention — and eyerolls. On Sunday, Trump turned a photo of himself seated near a smiling first lady Jill Biden at the Notre Dame ceremony into a social media promo for his new perfume and cologne line, with the tag line, “A fragrance your enemies can’t resist!” The first lady’s office declined to comment. When Trudeau hastily flew to Florida to meet with Trump last month over the president-elect’s threat to impose a 25% tax on all Canadian products entering the U.S., the Republican tossed out the idea that Canada become the 51st U.S. state. The Canadians passed off the comment as a joke, but Trump has continued to play up the dig, including in a post Tuesday morning on his social media network referring to the prime minister as “Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada.” After decades as an entertainer and tabloid fixture, Trump has a flair for the provocative that is aimed at attracting attention and, in his most recent incarnation as a politician, mobilizing fans. He has long relished poking at his opponents, both to demean and minimize them and to delight supporters who share his irreverent comments and posts widely online and cheer for them in person. Trump, to the joy of his fans, first publicly needled Canada on his social media network a week ago when he posted an AI-generated image that showed him standing on a mountain with a Canadian flag next to him and the caption “Oh Canada!” After his latest post, Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller said Tuesday: “It sounds like we’re living in a episode of South Park.” Trudeau said earlier this week that when it comes to Trump, “his approach will often be to challenge people, to destabilize a negotiating partner, to offer uncertainty and even sometimes a bit of chaos into the well established hallways of democracies and institutions and one of the most important things for us to do is not to freak out, not to panic.” Even Thanksgiving dinner isn’t a trolling-free zone for Trump’s adversaries. On Thanksgiving Day, Trump posted a movie clip from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” with President Joe Biden and other Democrats’ faces superimposed on the characters in a spoof of the turkey-carving scene. The video shows Trump appearing to explode out of the turkey in a swirl of purple sparks, with the former president stiffly dancing to one of his favorite songs, Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” In his most recent presidential campaign, Trump mocked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, refusing to call his GOP primary opponent by his real name and instead dubbing him “Ron DeSanctimonious.” He added, for good measure, in a post on his Truth Social network: “I will never call Ron DeSanctimonious ‘Meatball’ Ron, as the Fake News is insisting I will.” As he campaigned against Biden, Trump taunted him in online posts and with comments and impressions at his rallies, deriding the president over his intellect, his walk, his golf game and even his beach body. After Vice President Kamala Harris took over Biden’s spot as the Democratic nominee, Trump repeatedly suggested she never worked at McDonalds while in college. Trump, true to form, turned his mocking into a spectacle by appearing at a Pennsylvania McDonalds in October, when he manned the fries station and held an impromptu news conference from the restaurant drive-thru. Trump’s team thinks people should get a sense of humor. “President Trump is a master at messaging and he’s always relatable to the average person, whereas many media members take themselves too seriously and have no concept of anything else other than suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome,” said Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director. “President Trump will Make America Great Again and we are getting back to a sense of optimism after a tumultuous four years.” Though both the Biden and Harris campaigns created and shared memes and launched other stunts to respond to Trump’s taunts, so far America’s neighbors to the north are not taking the bait. “I don’t think we should necessarily look on Truth Social for public policy,” Miller said. Gerald Butts, a former top adviser to Trudeau and a close friend, said Trump brought up the 51st state line to Trudeau repeatedly during Trump’s first term in office. “Oh God,” Butts said Tuesday, “At least a half dozen times.” “This is who he is and what he does. He’s trying to destabilize everybody and make people anxious,” Butts said. “He’s trying to get people on the defensive and anxious and therefore willing to do things they wouldn’t otherwise entertain if they had their wits about them. I don’t know why anybody is surprised by it.” Gillies reported from Toronto. Associated Press writer Darlene Superville contributed to this report.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California quarterback Miller Moss is entering the transfer portal after losing the Trojans' starting job last month. Moss made his announcement on social media Monday. Moss started the Trojans ' bowl victory last season and their first nine games this season before coach Lincoln Riley replaced him with Jayden Maiava in early November. “Being a USC Trojan was a lifelong dream of mine,” Moss wrote. “Putting on the cardinal and gold and competing on behalf of my teammates and school is something I will forever take pride in. I poured everything I have into this — body, heart, mind and soul — and am humbled by and proud of what my teammates and I accomplished.” Moss, who was born in Los Angeles and went to high school in the San Fernando Valley, signed with USC before Riley arrived at the school. Moss also stayed with the Trojans after Caleb Williams transferred from Oklahoma to rejoin Riley, and he served as Williams’ backup for two seasons before getting his chance to play with six touchdown passes in last year's Holiday Bowl. Moss completed 64.4% of his passes this season for 2,555 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. After a spectacular 378-yard performance to beat LSU in the Trojans' season opener, Moss didn't play poorly as a starter, but he also wasn't a difference-maker while USC stumbled to a 4-5 record. Moss threw seven interceptions in his final five starts before losing the job to Maiava. The Trojans went 1-4 in that stretch under Moss, who plays as a more traditional pocket passer while Maiava has the mobility usually favored for quarterbacks in Riley's spread offense. “Looking towards the future, I'm unwaveringly committed to becoming an even better quarterback and leader, and to achieving this at the next level,” Moss wrote. Moss has already graduated from USC, putting him in the portal as a graduate student. USC (6-6) is headed to a lower-tier bowl game again to finish this season, its third under Riley. AP college football: https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll and https://apnews.com/hub/college-footballPoliticians seldom keep their promises but Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State is of a different cut. On May 29, 2023, he promised to be ‘’Governor for all’’ but many people didn’t believe him because past governors had made similar promises which they observed in the breach. Interestingly, so far he has disappointed sceptics not only by the spread of his projects in Kaduna State but also by the way he is carrying everybody and disparate socio-political blocs along. During the last administration, Southern Kaduna was marginalised in terms of projects. The government treated the people with disdain and when they complained (in the exercise of their freedom of expression), they were threatened. Sometimes, the immediate past administration went beyond threats and detained those who spoke out against its policies. For example, in 2019, the president of Adara Development Association, Mr. Aweni Dio Maisamari, along with a few elders were illegally arrested and detained for about three months without investigation. The court dismissed the case afterwards because nothing was found against them. Senator Uba Sani has proven to be a different governor by the way he has been conducting the affairs of the state. In October 2023, he set up and all-embracing Kaduna Elders/Senior Citizens Forum comprising senior citizens, retired generals, civil servants, accomplished businessmen and seasoned politicians from all parties across the state. Retired General Zamani Lekwot and Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, former Head of Service, were appointed Co-chairmen of the forum. The governor has also set up an Inter Religious Harmony Committee to advise on how the past can be redressed with a view of addressing present challenges. Furthermore, Governor Uba Sani is matching his words with action by reaching out and extending a hand of fellowship to Southern Kaduna. For the second time, he attended the Southern Kaduna Festival which held at Kafanchan Township Stadium last Saturday. During the occassion, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to build a state where no person or area is left behind. He also thanked the people for being peaceful and for cooperating with his administration. In addition, Governor Uba Sani enumerated the number of completed projects and those being executed in Southern Kaduna. He specifically recalled the dilapidated township roads in Kafanchan which had been abandoned for many years, thereby bringing untold hardship on the residents, which are now receiving attention. The good news is that the contract sum has been reviewed downwards to N9.3 billion and the government has advanced the contractor the sum of N4 billion. Right now, work is on-going. Also, the Senator Uba Sani administration is constructing a 22.5km road from Gwantu through Kibam to Godogodo; another 21.95km road from Madauchi to Kafanchan through Madakiya, including a branch to Matsirga Waterfalls, linking Jema’a to Zangon Kataf LGAs. Governor Uba Sani disclosed that the project has reached 70% and will be completed in the next two months. In addition, he has reached out to both Minister of Works and President Bola Tinubu for the construction of Kwoi-Jema’a road, promising that it will be awarded in the second quarter of 2026. Similarly, the Governor disclosed that Sir Patrick Yakowa General Hospital, Kafanchan, will be converted to a Federal Medical Center to serve the diverse population spanning several Local Government Areas and the neighbouring states of Plateau, Nassarawa, Niger and the FCT. According to him, this ‘’will greatly improve healthcare accessibility, strengthen tertiary healthcare delivery, and provide opportunities for advanced medical training and research in the area.’’ A day after he returned from the festival, Governor Uba Sani attended a Christmas Carol of Six Lessons organized by the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at ECWA Good News, Narayi Highcost. He was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Sani Liman Kila, Senior Honorary Advisor Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar and the Secretary of Jama’atu Nasir Islam. At that event, he reiterated the need for peaceful coexistence and advised well-meaning residents of Kaduna State to checkmate the antics of ethnic chauvinists and religious bigots by living in peace, love and unity for overall progress and development. According to the governor, there can be no development without peace and harmony. Furthermore, the governor expressed his joy that people of Kaduna State are now living freely without intimidation because of their faith or ethnic affiliations. Governor Uba Sani rightly asserted that the challenge before every resident is to help in repositioning Kaduna State to bring back its lost glory, adding that Muslims and Christians must live together. He expressed dismay at the present situation where Kaduna—the capital city—is segmented along religious lines: Christians and Muslims living in segregated sections, instead of dwelling harmoniously together. The Governor has set the ball rolling. It is important that citizens of Kaduna State should complement his efforts by being their neighbours’ keepers, especially in this period of Yuletide.
